Danny's Eagle Scout Service Project:
On Saturday afternoon 4/29 and Sunday morning 4/30, the Scouts and other volunteers got to work digging holes and planting trees and shrubs as part of Danny's Eagle Scout Project to landscape and plant a windbreak at the Park County Animal Shelter east of town. The 19 workers spent a total of 84 hours working this weekend. The need for a windbreak was evident as they faced strong, continuous winds on Sunday morning. Shovels and picks were used to dig 153 holes in the rocky soil. A total of 59 trees and shrubs were planted this weekend. The remaining 94 plants for this project will be purchased and planted in the weeks to come. A drip irrigation system will be installed to provide water to the total of 164 trees and shrubs planned in this project. Donations to buy additional trees and irrigation materials for this project can be sent to the Humane Society of Park County, 3 Business Park Road, Livingston, MT 59047. Danny would like to thank all those who have supported this project to make it a success. (Article by Danny)

Uniform Inspections:
There will be a uniform inspection at the Scout meeting on Monday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Armory. All Scouts should dress as normal with their class "A" uniforms, including merit badge sash and Troop neckerchief. However, part of the uniform inspection is to carry their current membership card and Scout Handbook which have not been brought to most meetings. Extra credit will be given for having a pen and the May edition of Boys Life magazine. Scouts should not worry about their Position of Responsibility patch as most have recently changed and new patches will be handed out in a few weeks.

May Campout (District Camporee):
The May Campout is the District Spring Camporee on Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21. We will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the Lincoln School. Scouts and adults will need to bring a sack dinner or eat before they arrive. We will drive to Head Waters State Park and then participate in Night Trek 2000 where each of our three patrols will hike a five mile course and exhibit their skills in 12 different events along the way. The course runs from 9 p.m. to sometime after midnight. On Saturday there will be an award ceremony and the OA call out ceremony. We will be camping for two nights which will cost each Scout $11 for food and $4 for registration which includes a patch. The organizers are asking for lots of help supervising so please consider joining us. We will return to the Lincoln School Sunday at noon.

Troop History Web Pages:
Jay, our Troop Historian, has scanned a bunch of pictures of past campouts and other events and made pages to display them on our Troop web site. He is hoping to have at least one picture for every month beginning with February 1998. Check out these pictures at http://www.livingston.k12.mt.us/users/sandrews/ and go to the Library or check Recent Updates.

Horsemanship Merit Badge:
Our current theme is Horsemanship Merit Badge which will be introduced to the boys during the Troop Committee Meeting on Monday, May 15th. The Scouts will have an opportunity to work on the badge with Geri Lester, who is volunteering to be a Horsemanship Merit Badge counselor, and kids from the 4-H program. Scouts interested in pursuing the badge may talk to her at the meeting to arrange times to work with the horses.

Summer Camp:
Final payment of $105 for Summer Camp is due on Monday, May 22nd. Don't be late or the fee increases by $10 and you loose the free T-shirt. We have 16 Scouts and 2 adults attending and six brand new tents to use at our campsite for looking all spiffy. We are attending camp the last full week of July, 23rd - 29th. All Scouts will need to have an updated Class One Medical Form (parent contact and consent) and Scouts have to have a Class Two Medical Form (doctor's physical exam) within the last three years. The mailing address for Scout camp is:
