Troop Elections Part 2:
In addition to the six month elections held in May we had elections
for some vacant positions in June. Brian is once again the Vipers
Patrol Leader. Hugh is the Troop Librarian. Cory is the Assistant
Senior Patrol Leader for the Venture Crew. I know we can count
on these boys for some great leadership and lots of dedication
to their positions of responsibility.
OA Ordeal Weekend:
Nicholas survived his Order of the Arrow Ordeal Weekend
up at Grizzly Base. He is now an Ordeal member of the Order of
the Arrow. This brings our Troop membership to 4 Ordeal Members
and 3 Brotherhood Members. These Scouts are expected to provide
service to their Troop, District and Council. In addition, there
are gatherings during the year at which leadership and service
are discussed in an effort to improve the Scout Program.
June Day Hike:
On June 17th five Scouts, two adults and a dog went on a nine
mile hike that took us to Thompson Lake and back. The hike was
under mostly sunny skies and was at a relaxed pace. Danny and
his Dad caught fish at the lake and planned to have them for
dinner. If you missed this hike and the June backpacking trip
try to keep August 11 - 13 open for a two night backpacking trip
that is sure to be a great time.
Takachsin Junior Leadership Camp:
Jay, Danny, Nicholas and Joshua attended a weeklong leadership
training camp where they learned many new songs, skits and lots
about how a Troop should be run. They all had fun but also worked
a bunch to improve their skills and returned to our Troop with
additional wisdom. |
Court of Honor Results:
On Monday, July 17th we honored the work of our Scouts and leaders
at our late, late, late Spring Court of Honor. Joshua was the
Master of Ceremonies who awarded the 27 recently earned Merit
Badges and 5 Firem'n-Chit cards. Jack and Billy were awarded
the rank of Second Class. Billy, Bret and Brent were awarded
the rank of First Class. The Donor Awareness patch was given
to Brian. One year Service Stars were awarded to Billy, Tyler,
Brent and Mrs. Hughes. A six year Service Star was awarded to
Nick. A ten year Service Star was awarded to Mrs. MacCracken.
She was also praised for her long term dedication to Scouting
and all the work she has contributed to the Troop. Mr. Andrews
was given the National President's Scoutmaster Award of Merit
for which he deeply appreciates the consideration show to him
by all Scouts and the whole Scout Family. Mrs. Jovick brought
forward our Assistant Scoutmasters and spoke about the importance
of Scouts and parents, the District and Council, putting forth
such a great effort to keep the ball rolling for this wonderful
Troop.
Summer Camp Merit Badge Fees:
Please make sure that you discuss with your son which badges
he will be working on at Summer Camp. A Merit Badge Schedule
was handed out at the Court of Honor which details when badges
are offered. Some classes will fill up, so an alternate schedule
would be helpful. Scouts should try between 3 and 5 badges during
the week. Some of the Merit Badges at Summer Camp require a fee
to cover materials: Archery $5, Rifle Shooting $5, Motor Boating
$5, Black Powder Shooting $12, Shotgun Shooting $15, Water Skiing
$15. Leatherworking, Basketry, Indian Lore and Woodcarving require
kits which range from $2.50 to $8.25 each. |
