March Campout:
The March campout at the Livingston Girl Scout Lodge was very well attended by our Scouts and three Webelos who wanted some camping experience with Boy Scouts before they left Webelos. In exchange for cabin rental payment, the Scouts did home repairs such as building a shelf and painting the kitchen. The work was coordinated by Mrs. Jovick and on the trip our newest Assistant Scoutmaster, Mr. Hughes was invaluable in obtaining materials and teaching the boys many new home repair skills.

Merit Badge Counselors:
I have the newest list of Merit Badge Counselors if you are interested in a copy. I have created a Livingston, Emigrant list from the District list so we can easily see who is available to help with Merit Badges close to home. There are 26 Merit Badges (out of 119) that have no counselor on our side of the hill. Including:
American Cultures, American Heritage,
Animal Science, Archaeology, Archery
Aviation, Basketry, Cinematography,
Dentistry, Drafting, Entrepreneurship,
Farm Mechanics, Graphic Arts, Medicine,
Metalwork, Oceanography, Painting,
Public Health, Shotgun Shooting, Skating,
Small-Boat Sailing, Snow Sports,
Traffic Safety, Veterinary Medicine,
Water Skiing and Whitewater.
If you are interested or know someone who might be, take a look at the requirements for a particular badge or badges and see if you can facilitate the completion of all of its requirements. Ask for a Adult Application from Mr. Andrews, fill it out and return it to become a registered Merit Badge Counselor. Teaching Merit Badges is not much work and is a great amount of fun. Please help if you can.

New Trailer:
As most of you are aware, we will be receiving a new fully enclosed trailer, custom built to our specifications. We won this trailer from our terrific sales of batteries. Mrs. Lemke did a lot of phone work to make sure that we obtained the best package deal. The options that the Troop Committee decided to include are $201 more than the amount the battery sales folks are providing. The rationale is that it is easier to include these options while the trailer is built rather than at some later time. Since we are going to have this trailer for many years, it makes sense to invest a bit of money to make it really nice. However, our Troop budget this year is quite tight and we still must register the trailer for another $40. I am asking all Troop families that can possibly afford an extra $10 to $20 to pay for the additional options. The Scouts and I thank you in advance for your support.

April Campout:
April 29 - 30 we are planning a Troop campout. We hope to use the Rustad's property, East of town as the campsite. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Lincoln School on Saturday, April 29th. The trip will cost $7 which should be paid at the Scout meeting on April 24th. During the campout the Scouts will be called upon to help Danny on his Eagle Scout project. This will involve lots of digging and other work. Work gloves are a good idea in addition to the 10 outdoor essentials and overnight gear. Scouts will also have an opportunity to earn Wilderness Survival Merit Badge as well as work on other incompletes that they have. We plan on meeting back at the Lincoln School at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 30th.

Troop Committee Meeting:
Just when it seems like there shouldn't be a whole lot to talk over, more and more ideas and projects evolve. The Troop Committee has been reviewing quite a few Eagle Scout Projects that our Scouts are starting to work on. Please see the enclosed flier created by Life Scout Danny. The Committee is also planning some more fund raisers for the 2001 National Jamboree. We have a great Troop Committee and it is a big part of what makes this Troop excellent. If you are interested in being a part of the Troop Committee please come to the next meeting on Monday, April 17th at 7 p.m. at the Armory. If you have an idea for fund raising but can not make the meeting, be certain to tell our Troop Committee Chair, Mrs. Jovick. If you have a son who is a Life Scout, you should try to send at least one parent as you will likely obtain some helpful pointers on the Life to Eagle process. This will help you understand what you child is trying to accomplish.

Communications:
Many of our Scouts have Communications Merit Badge but for those that do not, this month is a great time to work on it. This Merit Badge is required for Eagle and is not considered to be too difficult. Scouts need to teach a skill, build a sales plan, demonstrate good phone communication, give a five minute speech, attend a town meeting, use a computer to share information, prepare a resume and investigate a career in communications. So far we have heard speeches from three Scouts and four other boys have taught Scouting skills. At the meeting on April 24th we plan to hear five more speeches. In order to stay prepared the Troop will be practicing an emergency mobilization using our newly published plan as written by Star Scout Jerome on either Saturday, April 15th or 22nd.

Summer Camp:
Final payment of $105 for Summer Camp is due on Monday, May 22nd. Camp Easton offers a wide variety of Merit Badges including waterfront badges such as Waterskiing and Motorboating not offered at other camps nearby. I have asked the Scouts to indicated which badges they are thinking about working on at camp so they can begin any prerequisites. We have 16 boys that are going to camp this year. We are currently planning on leaving at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 23rd and returning very late on Saturday, July 29th. I hope that there is a third or even fourth adult that can join Mr. Carlson and I for the fun.
