Three District Camporee:
By: Michael
Jerome, Jere, Ben, David and Michael went to the Three District Camporee, Friday, September 13 to Saturday, September 14 at Headwaters State Park. On Friday we arrived, set up camp, had supper, played a few games and went to bed about 9:30 p.m. On Saturday morning, we ate breakfast and went to a flag ceremony. Later in the day we went to seven stations; basic horse saddling, tomahawk throwing, archery, hunter's education, Indian games, pick up sticks and one more. We finished about 3:30 and got fake arrow heads for finishing the seven events. We had supper about 5:30 then went to a campfire at 8 p.m. after we broke camp. After the campfire we left and arrived home at 10 p.m. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Nelson for camping with us for the weekend.

October Merit Badge Focus:
The merit badge focus for the month of October is Woodwork. This badge requires knowledge of types of wood, harvesting wood, wood working tools, and project plans. If anyone has an interesting project that the Scouts could work on please talk to Mr. Andrews. We will take a tour of the lumber mill on October 14th and will need assistance taking the kids there and back. We will have a guest speaker about carpentry on October 21st. On October 28th we will have stations where kids can use a router, jig-saw, miter saw, circle-saw, and other tools. Adults are needed to help! There are no Scouts in our Troop the have this merit badge so it is a good opportunity to earn six requirements toward the 15 for the October, November, December incentive period.

500 Merit Badges:
Mr. Andrews recently signed off on the 500th merit badge that Scouts have earned from October 1996 to July 2002. It is difficult to say which one was the 500th because 11 different Scouts completed 20 different merit badges all on the last day of summer camp. Since that day, July 12th, only one additional merit badge has been completed. There are currently 105 incomplete blue cards. I have sent a little slip of paper detailing which merit badges your son should be working on with this newsletter. Try to set aside one hour a week to finish a few requirements and in a month's time these incompletes can be earned. Remember, if a Scout that participated in last year's Christmas Tree Selling, finishes 15 requirements during the current three month period, they earn $25 toward camp or gear. During the July through September period, the following Scouts completed their incentive and earned $25: Tyler, Michael, Jay, Danny, Mark, Nicholas, Jere, Micah, Jerome, and John.

Venture Caving:
We are leaving at 6:30 a.m. from the Lincoln School and heading to the Tetons. It is about a 4 and one half hour drive there. We plan to eat lunch and hike to the cave in the early afternoon. We will then visit the cave and hike back to the cars to camp at the trailhead. We should be back at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Christmas Trees:
An advance group of six including, Tyler, Billy, Mr. and Mrs. DesChene, Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Andrews went to view and tag Christmas Trees on Saturday, October 5th. We have a great selection of trees to cut down this year. RY Timber is donating trees to us that are four miles up the Olsen Creek Road which is off of the Bridger Canyon Road. We need lots of trailers to haul the trees out of the woods. We are going to try to cut and haul them all on Saturday, November 23rd. All Scouts must be in attendance on this day if they wish to participate in the 2003 incentive program. We will start at 8 a.m. from the Sales Barn.
