February Campout Adventure:
We had a wonderful adventure on Saturday, February 23rd. We left immediately after the Webelos Bridge Ceremony and arrived at the trail head near dusk. We strapped on our skies and snowshoes and headed into the forest. The nearly full moon illuminated the cloud cover which made everything glow in a beautiful fashion. We didn't even use our headlamps on our trip in. It was 5.3 miles of skiing to the Bennett Creek Cabin which was a great destination. We arrived just before 9 p.m. The Cabin warmed up quickly and after some soup and cookies we were off to sleep. Jerome and Jere were brave enough to sleep out and earned 27 Frost Points. The next morning we played Magic and Hearts and relaxed in the cabin. We left about 1 p.m. and skied back out to the vehicles. There was quite a bit of new snow which made the skiing even better. We had a slow but uneventful drive home and all was well.

Fall / Winter Court of Honor:

Our Troop held a Court of Honor in the Sleeping Giant Middle School library on Monday, March 4th. There was no Court of Honor in November of last year in hopes that there would be many more merit badges to award in March. This was true to some extent. There were 13 merit badges awarded, up from one.
Many Scouts are on the "Life Scout Lawn Chair" (thanks to our Senior Patrol Leader for this new term). It is the relaxed state of being that Life Scouts maintain until they finally decide to get serious about completing the requirements for Eagle Scouts. Some never get up from the lawn chair. If you know someone in this state, give them an encouraging word and maybe this spring it will take root and flourish.

Court of Honor (continued):
Here are the awards that were received at the Court of Honor. Four new Scouts were inducted into the Troop including Michael, Emmanuel, Micah and John. Earning their Scout Rank were Emmanuel, Micah, and Michael. Tenderfoot Rank for Ken. Star Rank for Mark.
Bronze Eagle Palm and Gold Eagle Palm for Jay. Silver Eagle Palm for Nicholas. 2nd Bronze Eagle Palm for Brian. Chemistry Merit Badge for Nicholas and Tyler. Citizenship in the Community for Mark. Communications for Billy and Daniel. Computers for Calin and Tyler. Personal Fitness for Mark, Tyler and Zach. Personal Management for Brent. Space Exploration for Billy. Wilderness Survival for Zach. One Year Service Stars for Ken, Mark, Calin and Mrs. DesChene. Two years for Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Moody and Mrs. Lester. Three years for Daniel, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Jovick and
Mrs. Lemke. Four years for Jay, Danny, Nicholas, Jeremiah, Joshua and Jerome. Five years for Bret. Six years for Brian and Mr. Carlson. Seven years for Hugh. Eight years for Mrs. Nelson and Mr. Nelson. Hugh is the new Viper Patrol Leader. Mark is the Year 2001 Historian who is working to complete our biggest volume of Troop History. All Scouts and Scouters received the 2002 Quality Unit Patches.
Finally, last year's Spirit Award recipient, Mrs. Jovick, presented this year's Spirit Award to Mr. Moody. He has demonstrated extraordinary dedication in being a helping hand when the Troop runs across some bumps in our path. He has volunteered to drive to and chaperone all of our summer camps in addition to the 21 day Jamboree trip last summer. When you see Mr. Moody please let him know how much we appreciate his work.

Welcome New Scouts:
Pack 552 held its annual Webelos Bridge Ceremony where we received six boys into our Troop. All of them have our green and gold neckerchiefs and new Scout Handbooks. Three of them have been officially inducted into the Troop at the recent Court of Honor. We hope that all of our newest Scouts enjoy their time improving Scout skills and having adventures with the Troop.

Merit Badge Day:
There will either be a district wide merit badge day in Bozeman or an Electricity Merit Badge session on Saturday, March 9th. Either way we will meet at 7:15 a.m. at the SGMS front parking lot. If we need to go to Bozeman then we will need some parent volunteers to drive. If not then Scouts can stay at the middle school where we will finish Electricity Merit Badge by 11 a.m. I will find out on Thursday at the District Roundtable about the potential offerings at the merit badge day or that it is canceled.

March Campout Plan:
We will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16th for our annual campout east of town at the Rustad's. We will focus on building pioneering projects and working on Tenderfoot skills with our new Scouts. We might earn a few Frost Points so Scouts should dress warmly and bring heavy duty sleeping bags for the evening. We will be back at the Lincoln School at 1 p.m. on Sunday. This trip costs $5 for food and is due at the next Scout Meeting on March 11th. We also need a few parents to transport kids and chaperone. Please call Mr. Andrews if you have any questions or wish to volunteer.

New Address List:
The semi-annual Troop Address List is included with this newsletter. The next update is in September but I may send out another copy sooner if there are multiple changes. Please let me know if there are any mistakes on the list.
