Summer Camp: June Troop Campout: Middle School Closed for the Summer: |
May Camporee & Night Trek Report: On Friday, May 17th, we drove out to the Missouri Headwaters State Park for the annual May Camporee. This campout included a Night Trek where our Scouts competed in 11 events along with 23 other Patrols from about 12 Troops. We broke into two patrols for this campout. The Dragon Slayers started out at 9:15 and took Jere, the Troop Guide, along with them for any route finding assistance that they might need. They did not return to camp until 2:30 a.m. The Cosmos Patrol wanted to leave late so they signed up for the 11:45 p.m. spot. They did not return until 4:30 a.m. We got to sleep for a few hours and then went to the awards ceremony at 11 a.m. The Dragon Slayers, earned 3rd place in Plant Identification which was great for their first Camporee. Most Scouts don't earn their first ribbon until about a year of competitions. The Cosmos Patrol which was actually composed of three Cosmos, two Vipers and a Raptor, also took 3rd place in Plant Identification, it was a tie. In addition, they took 2nd place in knots, 2nd in lashing, 1st in the obstacle course. They also did very well in the other seven events, and accrued enough points to take 1st place for the Overall Best Patrol. We added the new ribbons, along with our Troop 2002 Friends of Scouting, 100% Boys Life and 2002 Quality Unit ribbons, to our Troop Flag. In the afternoon, eight of our Scouts earned the Leatherwork Merit Badge. John supervised the kitchen for the Dragon Slayers and Matt supervised for the Cosmos which was part of a First Class Rank requirement. We were pretty tired and time lost meaning so we had breakfast around 1 p.m. and dinner around 6 p.m. with lunch on Sunday morning. Billy was tapped out to join the Order of the Arrow but Jerome did not earn his last half frost point. We arrived home on-time and unpacked the trailer and ended yet another fine campout. |
