Hugh Becomes an Eagle Scout:
Our newest Eagle Scout is Hugh who officially passed his Eagle Board of Review on June 21st. His Eagle Scout Project was the landscaping and trail building for the new Lewis and Clark interpretive signs off of I-90 toward the Bozeman Pass. Hugh hopes to have his Eagle Scout Court of Honor next year. Hugh is the 6th Eagle Scout from our Troop since 1995. Congratulations!

Court of Honor Results:
Our Spring/Summer Court of Honor was held at the Sacajawea Park picnic shelter on Monday, June 24th. Bret was the master of ceremonies. Matt, Tyler and Mark were absent and will receive their certificates at the September Court of Honor although they can have their patches earlier if they desire. Patrick was inducted as the newest member of our Troop family. Patrick, Ben and John received their Scout Rank. Emmanuel, Michael, Ben, Micah and John received their Tenderfoot Rank. Emmanuel, Billy, Ben, Micah and John received Electricity Merit Badges. Emmanuel, Michael, Billy, Ben, Micah, Jerome and John received Leatherwork Merit Badges. Jere received his Personal Fitness Merit Badge. Billy received his 3 year Service Star. Position of Responsibility emblems were given to all Scouts that were elected in May to a new position that they have never held before. The positions were reported in the May 2002 newsletter. Totin' Chip Card were earned by Emmanuel, Michael, Ben, Micah, John and Jere. Billy earned the Recruiter Award for helping Matt to join and become a Tenderfoot Scout. Billy was recognized for his recent ordeal membership to the Order of the Arrow. Jere also went to K-M Scout Camp and earned his Brotherhood Order of the Arrow sash.

Pine Creek Hike:
There were seven Scouts that hiked along Pine Creek on Saturday, June 15th. Jere and Jerome left as soon as we arrived at the trail head so they had a chance to make it all the way to Pine Creek Lake. The other five Scouts talked with Mr. Andrews about hiking safety, first aid and trail etiquette. We took off and made it to the falls in good time. We then began our climb and took a good break at the top of the falls. We ate and filtered water and rested all along the trail and worked on a few 2nd Class and 1st Class requirements as we went. At 2:45 we decided to head back down and finished a total of eight miles of hiking by 4:15. Jere and Jerome were right behind us at the end as they completed a ten mile hike. Having reached the lake, they reported that it was still all frozen over. We had great weather and enjoyed this challenging hike.

Lewis and Clark Caverns Campout:
We had 11 Scouts on the Troop Campout on June 19th and 20th. We rented a cabin and an adjacent campsite for the night and then had lunch. We took a 1.9 mile hike up to the visitor center and then Mr. Andrews bought everyone ice cream sandwiches. We then took a two hour tour of the caverns and hiked back to the campground. Altogether it was about six miles of hiking. We had dinner and then worked on some requirements and played a bunch of ultimate frisbee. That night there were a few games of capture the flag and then sleep. In the morning we had breakfast and then worked on a few more requirements. We made it home a bit early as usual and took care of the Troop gear. Overall it was a fun and relaxing adventure.

Service Hours:
During the last few months our Troop has done quite a bit of community service. In May we helped at the Postal Service Food Drive for six hours and helped put up flags on Memorial Day. In June Hugh did his Eagle Scout Project, and the Troop helped out at the Fun Run and the Anglers Against Weeds. Way to go Scouts!
