Jay's Eagle Court of Honor:
On the evening of Saturday, September 15th, the Troop held an Eagle Court of Honor for Jay with a special patriotic theme. He completed his Eagle Board of Review on July 3rd. The ceremony was well organized thanks to Mrs. Jovick and the Scouts performed their many complex parts with few mishaps. The program included singing the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful. Jay's acceptance speech was excellent. Congratulations Jay!

Merit Badge Progress:
There are two Merit Badges that our Scouts are currently working on. As a Troop we are building model rockets and learning about space exploration. There are four meetings in October where we will continue on Space Exploration Merit Badge. Scouts should have their model rockets built, painted and dry by the October 8th meeting so we can test launch and recover them. The second launch day, the launch with a mission, is on October 22nd. Both of these meetings are at SGMS. Scouts should call Mr. Andrews to talk to him about the requirements that they are ready to discuss. So far, we have talked about requirements 1 - 4 and we will talk about requirements 5 - 8 on October 1st. Four other Scouts are working on Personal Fitness Merit Badge. They are all four weeks into the 12 week program. The remaining testing sessions are October 8, 22 and November 5 and 19. These are at the High School track at 6:30 p.m. with Scouts at SGMS at 7:00 p.m.

The September Fall Camporee???:
On a sunny weekend in September we had a great two night campout in a quiet little clearing by the Mill Creek. We worked on a recruiting article that we want to publish in the paper and really enjoyed some laughs. All day Saturday we climbed and rappelled on 60 foot high rocks under sunny and warm skies. Many Scouts had their first rappelling experience in the morning and then we set up climbs for the afternoon. By the time we were finished, and really tired, it was way past dinner time. We returned to camp to eat and sleep but decided to eat and then go swimming at Chico Hot Springs. When we returned we finally got to sleep an hour and a half after bedtime. On Sunday morning we woke early and ate and broke camp quite efficiently. We traveled four miles down the road to the site of the Fall District Camporee. There we participated in the closing flag ceremony and religious services.
Many Scouts have partial blue cards for Climbing Merit Badge and are encouraged to talk to Mr. Andrews to complete them and finish their climbing, rappelling and belaying. Included with this newsletter is a list of the partial Merit Badge Blue Cards for each Scout. Encourage your son to work on these whenever possible.

Scouts Keep Track of Requirements:
Starting at the October 1st Scout meeting, we will begin a new quarter of the incentive program. Briefly, it is the way that Scouts earn money toward summer camp or camping equipment. Scouts that actively participate in Scouting all year long can earn up to $100. A Scout has to complete 15 requirements each quarter (Jan.-March, April-June, July-Sept., Oct.-Dec.) in order to earn $25. The money can then be withdrawn in the form of a check to a store, the BSA or a parent. The only change to the program is that Scouts will be responsible for keeping track of their requirements each quarter. Mr. Andrews will provide each Scout with a form and will collect them on or before the end of each quarter, in this case December 31st. The completed requirements will then be verified through Blue Cards and Scout Books.
