Seven New Scouts Join:
Our Troop has grown to 24 active Scouts with the addition of five Webelos that bridged over on February 24th, and two other Scouts that were inducted at the Court of Honor on February 26th. We welcome these new boys and their families to our program and hope they will have an excellent experience.

Big Creek Cabin Fun:
The Troop spent Saturday, February 10th at Big Creek Cabin in an annual sledding and Scouting weekend. We had seven Webelos and three of their dads along for the day. We were surprised that you could drive all the way to the cabin this year which saved the boys from having to haul all of their gear in. We spent the morning sledding and then ate lunch. Nicholas, our Troop Guide, and Jerome worked with the Webelos on knots and lashings to give them an idea of the kind of skills that Scouts learn. We had a Scout meeting at the cabin and discussed summer camp, and Cinematography Merit Badge. We then played games and slept out on the porches for the night. We earned 24 frost points which put many Scouts over the 100 point mark. In the morning we went for one more sled run and then cleaned up the cabin. We finished off the weekend by swimming at Chico hot springs and practiced the line rescue.

March Troop Campout Plan:
On Saturday, March 31st at 8:30 a.m. we will meet at the Lincoln School to load up gear for our March campout. We will be heading to the Rustad's property just East of town. We will be able to work on Wilderness Survival and Pioneering Merit Badges and our newest Scouts will have plenty to work on toward rank advancements. Scouts will be back at the Lincoln School at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Winter Court of Honor:
On Monday, February 26th we held our Winter Court of Honor at the Armory. Our Senior Patrol Leader, Brian was the master of ceremonies. Ken and Calin were inducted into the Troop and presented with their new Troop 563 neckerchiefs. Then all seven of our new Scouts, Ken, David, JR, Lucas, Mark, Calin, and Tanner were presented with their Scout rank and certificates. The boys then gave their mothers the Scout Mother's pin. Brian, Danny, and Nicholas were awarded their Bronze Eagle Palms for earning five Merit Badges beyond those required for Eagle and continuing to serve the Troop in leadership. There were eight merit badges awarded and numerous service stars. 100 Degrees of Frost Awards went to Jack with 111 points, Billy with 126 points, Jay with 136 points, Daniel with 135 points and Nicholas and Jerome each with 168 points. Finally, the Annual Spirit Award was awarded to Mrs. Jovick for her major efforts this year in leading the Troop Committee, spearheading the Christmas Tree sales and working on the Troop Committee and Troop Parents guidebooks.

Troop Committee Meeting:
Please read the enclosed Troop Committee Meeting Minutes typed by the Committee Secretary Mrs. Moody. The next meeting will be Monday, March 19th from 7 - 8:30 at the Armory. Please read your new Troop 563 Parent's Guide and sign up to be a committee member. All Scout families should have one representative on the Troop Committee. There will be applications available at the meeting and the Troop pays the $7 registration fee. We need everyone to do their part in keeping Troop 563 the very successful organization that it is.

District Merit Badge Day:
Our Troop had 16 Scouts at the District Merit Badge Day on Saturday, March 3rd. There were three completed Merit Badges and 13 incompletes. Brian and Tanner finished Electricity and Jerome finished Citizenship in the Nation. The incompletes are Citizenship in the Community, First Aid and Pulp and Paper. Scouts should buddy up and make sure to contact a Merit Badge counselor when they want to continue their work on these badges.

Summer Camp Plan:
This year, as planned in August, we will attend summer camp from June 24 to June 30. We will be going to Bear Lake Aquatics Base which is in Northern Utah. Camp will cost $153 per Scout and is due by June 1st. A deposit of $ 50 is due by May 1st. We will leave Livingston on Sunday morning, camp near Bear Lake and plan to arrive early Monday morning. The camp opens Monday and offers over 20 merit badge classes. There is also dining hall food, sailing, canoeing, swimming, rifle shooting, and archery. For boys that are 14 years and older, there is climbing, caving, water skiing, cycling and an airplane flight. Some of these older boy activities carry an extra fee. Stay tuned for more info. and check out the Bear Lake web site at: http://www.gslc-bsa.org/camps/bear/index.htm .

Driving:
Since we have a number of boys in the Troop turning 16 years old, it is a good time to review the rules on driving. It is the Troop policy that Scouts or adults under 21 may not have any Scouts in a vehicle they are driving to or from any Scouting event. Those with a valid drivers license may drive by themselves or with a parent and may haul equipment but no Scouts can be in the vehicle. Many BSA policies are summarized in the Guide to Safe Scouting which is available on-line at: http://www.bsa.scouting.org/pubs/gss/toc.html .
