Dragon Slayers' Patrol Meetings:
The Dragon Slayers Patrol has been very busy since their inception just three months ago. They had a Patrol meeting on May 18th where they worked on Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements. They had 100% attendance at the Patrol meeting. Mr. Jovick visited to talk about their rights as citizens of the United States. Mrs. Lemke has been busy teaching first aid and cooking skills. Brian and Danny have helped with many other Scout skills. These Scouts are now ready for Summer Camp action. The Patrol also had an overnight campout on June1st and 2nd. This was the first Patrol campout our Troop has had in recent history. They are well on their way toward earning the National Honor Patrol Award.

Memorial Day Service Projects:
On Sunday, May 27th our Troop helped place flags at the grave sites of our town's veterans. On Monday, May 28th at 6 a.m we had boys and parents help place flags along the roadside in Sacajawea Park. That evening we helped take down all the flags and fold them for storage until next year. The veterans really appreciated our help in memory of those that fought for freedom around the world.

Food Drive Fun:
On Saturday, May 12th our Troop had 10 Scouts help the Postal Carriers on their annual food drive. We collected donated items and then brought them back to the Post Office and sorted them. We were fed very well by the Food Bank and it was lots of fun to help out.

Soil and Water Conservation Field Trip:
The four Scouts that already had Family Life Merit Badge chose to work on Soil and Water Conservation Merit Badge during the three months that the Troop focus was Family Life. Brian, Jay, Danny and Nicholas finished the badge by going on a field trip with Mr. Andrews on Saturday, June 2nd. We first visited the irrigation system for the Mill Creek Bench agricultural fields which is a new system designed to maximize the use of the water available to the ranchers. We then visited the fish ladder on the Mill Creek which is supposed to keep the native Cutthroat Trout and the Rainbow Trout separated. Finally, we had a tour of Livingston's Water Treatment Facility. This was a really great tour and quite educational. The Scouts then had to finish a 500 word essay about the soil, water and energy conservation practices that were observed.

County Market Fundraisers:
There have been three fundraisers at County Market over the past year. Each has been organized by a different family of a Scout attending the Jamboree Trip. The fundraisers have been well supported by the community and the store managers and checkers have enjoyed the Scouts helpfulness.

BSA Swimmer Tests:
We held BSA Swimmer Tests at the Paradise Inn on Monday, May 14th in place of our normal Scout Meeting. We had 17 Scouts participate in swimming and helping new Scouts to advance through the Second and First Class swimming requirements. All 7 of our Scouts attending summer camp have passed the swim test and are ready for fun at the waterfront.

Hike in Yellowstone National Park:
On Saturday, May 19th we had a fun 14.4 mile hike in the Park. Eight Scouts and Mr. Lemke, Mr. Jones and Mr. Andrews hiked along the Yellowstone River along the Northern border of the park. We saw a rattle snake, deer, sheep and 10 day old lambs, elk, and some birds. This was Brian's last hike required for Hiking Merit Badge and this was the first hike toward Hiking Merit Badge for most of the rest.

Nicholas' Eagle Scout Court of Honor:
The final Eagle Scout Court of Honor for those Scouts that earned their Eagle rank in 2000, was held on Sunday, June 3rd. Nicholas earned his Eagle Rank at his Eagle Board of Review on October 16th. He was finally awarded his Eagle Badge even after some Scouts had difficulty with lighting candles at the ceremony. The Court of Honor was well attended, nicely performed and a very special day for Nicholas.

Patrol Activities:
The four Patrols of Troop 563 are encouraged to stay active this summer by planning day events and even an overnight trip. Patrol Leaders should call Mr. Andrews to check on BSA guidelines for their event. If your Patrol has any fun activities planned for the summer, feel free to invite the other Patrols. For example, the Dragon Slayers' Patrol is interested in working on Fingerprinting, Horsemanship, Fishing and Dog Care Merit Badges. If any Troop member is interested in attending any of these Merit Badge sessions please call Mark for more information.

Merit Badge Incompletes:
Summer is here and Scouts are encouraged to use some of their free time to work on their incomplete merit badges. Mr. Andrews has some free time and has already held an Electricity Merit Badge session where four Scouts completed the entire badge in about 3 and a half hours. Call up your Merit Badge Counselors and finish up what you have started. The number of incompletes is actually down from 157 to 136 which is wonderful news.
