District Winter Camporee:
The Troop had a fun time during the District Winter Camporee at Bear Canyon. We arrived Friday night and pitched our tents at high base camp. We earned 30 frost points on Friday night and 32 more on Saturday night. A few boys now have 147 frost points with only 33 to go to earn the Celsius award! Many others have earned at least 100 frost points to earn the Fahrenheit award. We hiked and played on sleds a bunch and ate well. There was a slide show on Saturday night by an adult Eagle Scout that climbed Everest twice from two different routes. Even though he did not make it quite to the top, his pictures were amazing and his message to the boys was to follow their dreams to see what good can come of them.

Happy Scout Week:
Thanks to Josh, Tyler, Nicholas, Brian and Mrs. Nelson for putting together our Scout Window on Saturday. Make sure that you visit the display at Nancy's Hallmark during Scout Week, February 4 - 10. This week is the yearly celebration of Scouting across our Nation and the anniversary of the beginning of the Boy Scouts of America. There are at least three other Scout window displays downtown so be sure to visit them while you are in the area.

Danny's Eagle Scout Court of Honor:
There was a wonderful gathering of people for Danny's Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sunday, February 4th. It was the first Eagle Court of Honor that this Troop has had in many, many years. Danny's mom put in a lot of hard work to come up with all the pieces to the ceremony and it went very well. We have at least three more Eagle Court of Honor ceremonies this spring with the possibility for a few more later this year.

Troop Campout at Big Creek Cabin:
The Troop will be heading to Big Creek Cabin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10th. All Scouts need either snowshoes or cross country skis. We will have time for advancement, building snow shelters, earning frost points, hiking around and other fun! We will have some Webelos visiting during Saturday to enjoy the outdoors with us for a while. Saturday night we will have a Scout Meeting since there are so few in February. We will also have a Magic game session since this outing marks the two year anniversary of the introduction of this game to many Scouts. Traditions are very important! On Sunday, after cleaning the cabin, we will be going to Chico Hot Springs at 2 p.m. and arrive back at the Lincoln School at 4:30 p.m. All Scouts should decide if they are going by Monday, February 5th and bring $10 to that meeting ($7 for food and $3 for swimming).

Patrol Activity Day:
Saturday, February 24th is Patrol Activity Day. This is a new feature that we hope to make an ongoing part of our program. Each patrol will meet on a separate occasion from normal Troop meetings and work together to build patrol spirit. We hope that these meetings will occur about once every three months and perhaps one patrol will earn the Baden Powell Award. The Cosmos will be meeting at Mr. Andrews' house for a Monty Python movie and sleeping out on the deck to earn more frost points. We will gather at 6:00 p.m. and have pizza for dinner and pancakes for breakfast. Scouts should be picked up between 9 and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The Raptors will be meeting to make a new flag. The Vipers will be going bowling. More information will be made available from the Patrol Leaders of each patrol.

Troop Committee Meeting:
The next TCM will be Monday, February 12th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Armory. We are looking for more involvement from all families that have boys in the Troop. Please send at least one representative from each family to the meeting so we can discuss how to break up some of the supervision responsibilities. Scouting is a family activity so please join in the fun. The Troop is run by the boys and for the boys but they certainly require some guidance from time to time. We all need to lend a hand where and when we can.

Cinematography Merit Badge Theme:
During the month of February and continuing into March we will work on Cinematography Merit Badge. Mr. Andrews will demonstrate how to make a movie from still photographs when he presents his 3000 mile bike trip movie at the Scout Meeting on Monday, March 5th. Perhaps the Troop will take in a movie as an activity in March. Scouts need to videotape demonstrations of Scouting skills that can be used to teach those skills to others or videotape and edit a Court of Honor.

District Merit Badge Day:
There will be a District Merit Badge Day in Bozeman on Saturday, March 3rd at the LDS Church. We will meet at the Lincoln School at 7:15 Saturday morning and return at 12:45 p.m. The Merit Badges being offered this time are: First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Law, Pulp and Paper, and Energy. Scouts should attend a public meeting in advance if they wish to complete either of the citizenship badges.

Newsletter Forms:
I am still missing eight responses concerning the Troop 563 News. Please let me know if you would like to continue receiving the newsletter in the mail or can access a copy on the internet.
