2004-2005 Frost Point Totals
The Montana Council offers a special award to its Scouts and Scouters. This is called the 100 Degree of Frost Award. Any registered Scout or Scouter may qualify. You must spend eight continous hours in the period between sunset and sunrise in a leanto, snow shelter, tent or out in the open. The low temperature for the night is determined by the local weather station or a set-back thermometer at the campsite. Each individual on the campout earns one point for every degree the low temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. No stoves or heaters are permitted in the tents or shelters. Open fires are permitted as long as they do not constitute a hazard to the shelter or surrounding area. Any organized council, district, troop, or patrol campout may be used as an opportunity to earn frost points. The qualifying period for the 100 Degree of Frost Award is from September 1 to May 31 of the following year. Points can not be carried over to the next year.
